Finish/FMQ Friday: I would walk 500 miles

Today's Finish Friday is going to be a wee bit different than normal. I haven't really finished any quilting.

I'm totally stuck on my Pinwheels and Elephants table runner.

I'm not sure how to border it. I've been thinking of doing it in white, but will that be to plain? I know I want to FMQ in white, but maybe I can work on my feathers around the border. Hmph. Any ideas?

What I did finish this week, and I'm incredibly proud of was a 6 mile run.

A few of you know, but many of you don't, about 9 years ago I was in a wheel chair. I could barely walk 10 feet. The reason as to why is a very painful story to share, and isn't really important for you all to know. Just know that it took months of extremely difficult physical therapy for me to get out of that wheel chair. Here I am now, running 6 miles. Something I never imagined myself doing 9 years ago.
This year I turn 25, to me, that's a pretty big birthday! So I want to celebrate big. I'm doing the Lehigh Valley Road Runner's South Mountain 10 miler on November 10. If you live in the area, you know that South Mountain is an incredibly steep incline, which I will be running 10 miles of! This is the biggest and best birthday gift I've ever gotten myself. It's also possibly the cheapest ;). I am hoping to have a huge support group there of friends and family cheering me on and helping me celebrate my birthday in my own way!

I will be updating my blog with my progress, I'll most likely be doing this every Sunday.
If you're interested in following my miles daily, follow me on instagram @hoppiquilts with the hash tag #10miletraining.

For now, it's back to quilting. I really need to figure out what I'm doing with that table runner! Today I'm linking up with FMQ Friday (for ideas on my table runner) as well as Can I Get a Whoop Whoop, please visit their blogs that I have listed in my side bar!
Quilt on,
Hoppi

  1. This is exciting!!! I can understand a wee bit of your joy - three years ago when I wanted to move toward better health, I could barely put in 10 minutes at 2.0 mph on a treadmill. I still have to mix intervals of running with power-walking, but to do a 5K 4 or 5 times a week in less than 45 minutes is glorious to me now. Enjoy your 10-miler coming up and KUDOS for all your hard work!!!!

  2. I think "a" white would work. Something like ecru or cream? Congrats on the training, it really does feel good to hit those miles!

  3. Congratulations on your 6 mile run, and good luck getting ready for your 10-miler! When is your birthday? My hubby's birthday is 11/9 and he ran the Chattanooga marathon (Chickamauga) for his 40th. A great way to celebrate!!

About your runner - is there a purple that's common to both of the prints you use? A batik or blender in that color would be pretty for the border and would show up your white FMQ very well!

    1. Thanks Sarah! Good for your husband! Eventually I'd like to work up to 26.2! My birthday is 11/12 :D

I hadn't thought of a batik. That would look nice, I just don't know if it will be too much color... what am i talking about??? you can never have enough color!!!!!

  4. Congratulations on your amazing progress! You must feel like you can do ANYTHING after that. :)

I think the white would be great if you use a complementary color and do a fabulous quilting design on it that will really show off. Anything that has a spinning feeling to it - curly feathers, concentric spirals, etc - will complement the pinwheels.

Can't wait to see it finished!
